Sister Roma!

Do you have someone special in your life that you fall into uncontrollable – gut-busting fits of laughter with? I’ve literally had to walk away from that person in mine – because I was literally ready to piss my panties I was laughing so hard. That person is the self-proclaimed – most photographed nun in the world – the amazing Sister Roma! A relic of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence –  she is applauded for being one of the most spontaneously funny emcee’s – and is in high demand to host numerous community and charity events throughout the city.

Currently, Sister Roma is part of The Tim and Roma Show and can be seen running around San Francisco causing trouble with some of the porn industries hottest stars.

She’s on my waiting list for a dinner invitation and is praying that mayonnaise will be on the menu. Sister Roma answers my foodie questionnaire here:

What is your favorite dessert?
I love strawberry shortcake! It brings me right back my childhood and summers in Michigan. For every family gathering, picnics, birthdays and especially July 4th, my grandmother would make the best homemade biscuits and serve them warm with butter, topped with fresh strawberries, and whipped cream. Nothing was as comforting and delicious as grandma’s strawberry shortcake.

What restaurant would you call your home?
I love to eat out and as much as I want to try new places I usually find myself frequenting the same places. One of my all-time favorites is Rocco’s Cafe on Folsom between 7th & 8th. It’s an intimate local hotspot known for it’s delicious Italian and American food. Chef Don makes everything fresh including the pasta and bread every day. If you can get a seat at the bar you can watch the guys cook in the open-air kitchen and grill. They put on quite a show. It’s equally as cozy and fun for brunch as it is for dinner. I can’t tell you my favorite thing on the menu because literally all of it is delicious!

What is the strangest or most inspiring thing you’ve ever eaten?
I ate ants and crickets at the bug museum in New Orleans and very recently I’ve began to enjoy sushi. Oddly enough, both of these food experiences are related to my friend Chi Chi LaRue. We ate the bugs together (she liked them but I couldn’t get past the idea and nearly gagged) and she loves to go to the Sushi Boat on Geary near Union Square. I finally caved in and tried it – I’ve never been a fan of seafood, let alone RAW fish – but I am actually craving it, right now!

What was your favorite breakfast cereal as a kid?
I loved Honeycomb, a corn bran based honey flavored cereal from Post and Kellogg’s Sugar Pops, which they now call Kellogg’s CORN Pops. These were two of the least sugary-sweet cereals out there when I was a kid and I never added sugar to my cereal. I’ve always preferred savory over sweet.

What is your favorite food to pig-out on after the club?
After the club I love hitting a greasy spoon like Orphan Andy’s or, when I’m with my girl Juanita, Grubsteak, for a big juicy cheeseburger and fries. Nothing hits the spot like that all-American favorite. If it’s been a really long night and I stumble home to raid the refrigerator nothing makes me happier than finding leftovers. It really doesn’t matter what it is – I’m going to eat it – cold.
